INTRODUCTION OF NEW SMS FACULTY
Academic Year 2021-2022
Dear Saint Michael School Parents, Friends Faculty and Staff:
I am very happy to report to you that our preparation for the new school year is going very well, thanks mostly to the great efforts of our wonderful faculty and staff. The most important part of the preparation for me was to recommend to Father Chris, the new faculty for 2021-2022. I also want to thank Mary Frances who participated in the interviews with me. Fr. Chris has met these new teachers and has approved for
appointment the following new faculty colleagues:

Emily Bouché
Kindergarten

Emily has both her Bachelors degree and her Masters degree in Early Childhood education. She comes to us with experience in PreK and Kindergarten. And let us all say, ‘God Bless’ to Emily today because she is also getting married this weekend!

Maureen Griffin
Middle School Science

Many of you know Maureen as an SMS parent and a significant help to Saint Michael Parish in the area of recycling and related important areas. What you may not know is Maureen has a PhD in Chemical Engineering and has developed school science curricula for Science From Scientists for almost 20 years. Maureen will participate in a special team-taught class this year in Environment and Climate Change. Incidentally, Fr Chris also has his degree in Chemical Engineering. I am trying to recruit him as a Guest Lecturer to offer a brief talk with the students from the spiritual and scriptural perspectives on the environmental issues.

Masanori Morita
Middle School Mathematics

Masanori was born in Japan and has an advanced graduate degree in the discipline of mathematics. He has a great deal of experience in preparing students
for their math college entrance tests. He also has taught Physics and Chemistry. Masanori and his wife have one child, with another on the way. His wife has
worked for the Boston Red Sox as an interpreter, so he’ll be able to excite students about math with baseball statistics.

James Parker
Athletic Director/
Physical Education Teacher

James has a Bachelors degree in Sports Management and is nearing completion of his Masters degree in Athletic Administration at Lasell University in Newton. James is also the JV baseball coach at Lowell Catholic, where he graduated. Our own Matt Stone coached James when James was a Lowell student.

Matt Stone
Assistant Director of Athletics

Matt has of course been a pillar of the SMS faculty for many years, creating a technology program that makes our school distinctive and second to none. As
if Matt doesn’t have enough to do, I asked him to step up as Assistant AD to support James and participate in the long-term development of our sports
program. Matt’s response to my request: “Put me in, Coach!”

Christine Bada
Teacher, PreK Age 3

Here’s an example of promoting from within! Christine has served our program well as classroom aide for PreK Age 3, so she has the front-line experience with SMS children. Now Christine will be the teacher of record for PreK Age 3. She and her daughter have done a great job setting up the classroom, so drop in and take a look.

Also, photos of these new PreK classroom aides are forthcoming in next week’s bulletin:

Hayley Woodworth, Classroom Aide, Pre-K Age 3
Sandra Duquette, Classroom Aide, Pre-K Age 4

Please join me in welcoming these new faculty to SMS!!

Also, our friend and colleague Kim Reardon has left SMS to care for her family. We thank Kim and wish her well. We will be continuing the Spanish
program this year. More news on this next week. Next week you will also receive a “Start of School” Newsletter with complete information on COVID, Cafeteria and Calendar, among other important things.

As always, please reach out to me if you have a question or need assistance of any kind. We will be here in the office all next week 9AM – 2PM.

Sincerely,
Mark
